Our Specialists

Alan Geiss, M.D. F.A.C.S. and Colin Powers, M.D. F.A.C.S. have undergone intensive training in the field of laparoscopic surgery to perfect their skill and performance for their Long Island-area patients. Surgeons who perform surgery with the LAP-BAND® System and other laparoscopic techniques must have an exceptional level of manual dexterity in order to work with the instruments and a two-dimensional video display, rather than the traditional open, exposed surgery site. Dr. Geiss and Dr. Powers have extensive experience manipulating small instruments while handling delicate tissues and organs. Dr Alan Geiss is also one of a select group of Bariatric surgeons qualified to perform Single Incision Laparoscopic Surgery (SILS). This is supported by superb surgical outcomes as well as patient-reported satisfaction. Laparoscopic surgery is a minimally-invasive procedure in which a tiny video camera and several thin instruments are placed through small incisions in the body. Viewing the surgery site on a monitor, the doctor performs the entire procedure through these small incisions, eliminating the need for opening up the abdominal cavity. Patients generally experience less post-operative discomfort, shorter recovery times, and less scarring with laparoscopic surgery. Our patients from Long Island and beyond can undergo the LAP-BAND® System procedure to help them control their weight when diet and exercise efforts have failed.
