Lap Band Surgery Candidates

The surgeon will measure their BMI or Body Mass Index. This is the measurement of how much body fat they have. It is done by calculating their weight and height. They would divide how much they weight by how tall they are.

The status of weight that they have will be listed as such:

For lap band surgery candidates, any Body Mass Index between 19 and 25 says they you are at a healthy and reasonable weight. A Body Mass Index between 25 and 30 states that they are in the overweight category. A Body Mass Index that is over the number 30 means that they are in the obese category. Anything 40 and above, then they are considered to be morbidly obese.

If they have a difficult time calculating your BMI they can estimate it by seeing if they are at least 100 pounds over their recommended weight. For lap band surgery candidates, the procedure is geared more toward the obese. Surgeons can work better with those who need to lose a lot of weight.

There are other things to consider as to whether or not they can be a candidate for lap band surgery. For the past five years, if they have been overweight or obese and can’t lose the excess weight with exercising and eating right, then they could qualify for this procedure.

Also, they must be between the ages of 18 and 60 years old. Lap band surgery candidates should also be willing to make adjustments in your eating habits in order for you to lose weight. For those who have health problems with their stomach, they are not ideal candidates. It would add more health issues to what lap band surgery candidates are already dealing with.
