Our program uses a multidisciplinary approach to the surgical treatment of morbid obesity via laparoscopic bariatric (weight loss) surgery. Our team in New York, serving the Tri-State Area, is committed to providing the highest quality of individual and personalized care to our patients. We strive to ensure our program meets the physical needs as well as the emotional and psychological needs of our patients. Our team is comprised of two surgeons, Dr. Alan C. Geiss and Dr. Colin J. Powers, two Physician Assistants, two registered dieticians, a psychologist, and multiple other health professionals who assist in the care of our practice. Our physicians at The Center for Bariatric Surgical Specialties at Syosset Hospital specialize in the LAP-BAND® System . Dr. Alan Geiss, the Director of the Center, has performed more than 1,600 surgeries involving the LAP-BAND® System . Not only does he have more experience than any other doctor performing the LAP-BAND® System procedure on Long Island, but Dr. Geiss is also one of the most experienced bariatric surgeons in the state and country.
We perform a wide range of laparoscopic and weight loss surgery procedures at our Long Island, New York office. While we specialize in the LAP-BAND® System , we also perform most other surgeries that can be executed with a laparoscope, such as Revision of Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass - ROSE, gastric bypass, gallbladder surgery, and laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy - LSG.
Minimally Invasive Laparoscopic Surgery requires the use of very specialized equipment. We use advanced state-of-the-art technology in order to consistently produce superior laparoscopic and bariatric surgery outcomes. Our Long Island facility boasts five High Definition Laparoscopic Operating Room Suites with the latest technologically advanced systems. We use High-Definition surgical cameras, scopes, monitors, and digitally advanced computers to capture the best picture available. Our equipment is connected to an intricate voice activation system, allowing Dr. Geiss and Dr. Powers control over each system. In addition, our voice activated robotic arm can be used during any laparoscopic procedure to precisely position the laparoscope for the surgeons. These advanced technology systems act in concert to provide control and precision to the surgeons and enhance the efficiency of the surgical staff. This optimal surgical environment, combined with the skill of the surgical staff and preparedness of the patient, contribute to superior patient outcomes and an exceptional patient experience.

Physician Assistant
Miriam Borsch, RPA-C has been with Dr. Geiss and Dr. Powers since 12/07. She graduated St. Johns University/Bayley Seton Hospital Physician Assistant Program in 1986. Since graduation she has been board certified by the NCCPA and licensed by New York State. The majority of her career has been in surgery ranging from orthopedics to general and advanced laparoscopic procedures.
Miriam divides her time between caring for patients pre and post operatively as well as first assisting in the operating room.
Gillian Brennan RPA-C joined the Center for Bariatric Surgical Specialties in June, 2009. She graduated PA school in 2003 from SVCMC of Queens and Brooklyn and, received her Bachelor of Science in Exercise Sciences from LIU-CW Post campus. Since graduating from PA school, she has worked in Occupational Medicine in several LI facilities.
Psychologist
Dr. Willo Wisotsky is a NY State licensed psychologist who received her B.S. in Psychology with a minor in Nutrition and Sociology from Hunter College. She later received her master's degree and doctorate Ph.D. from Ferkauf Graduate School of Psychology at Yeshiva University. Dr. Wisotsky defended her dissertation on: Psychiatric Symptomatology and Perception of Family Functioning in an Eating Disorder Day Program.
Dr. Wisotsky has presented her research at numerous international conferences, published in numerous peer reviewed journals and obesity magazines. Some of the organizations with which Dr. Wisotsky is affiliated include:
Staff Nurse – Operating Room; NSHS Syosset Hospital
June Warman received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Stony Brook University in June, 1981 and her NY State Professional Registered Nursing License in October, 1981. June has worked as a staff nurse at Syosset Hospital since 1992. For the last 10 years, her experience has been in the operating room, with major emphasis on minimally invasive laparoscopic surgical procedures and bariatric surgery.
In 1999, June Warman was awarded certification as a Perioperative Registered Nurse. She holds certificates of completion for multiple courses on minimally invasive procedures and bariatric surgery, and continues to update her education on current trends and practices.
Ms. Warman has been an integral part of Dr. Geiss' operative team since 1997, and has aided in development of the LAP-BAND® program since it began in 2002. In addition, she attends the program's monthly support group meetings, and facilitates a weekly peri-operative education seminar open to pre-operative LAP-BAND® patients.
June Warman is a current member of The New York State Nurses Association and The Association of Perioperative Registered Nurses.
Nutritionist
Christine Santori holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Hunter College. She is a Registered Dietitian and Certified Personal Trainer. She holds advanced certifications from the American Dietetic Association in Adult Weight Management. Christine has spent her career in private practice specializing in weight management and bariatrics.
Lisa and Christine have been working for years to assist people in managing their weight through the use of surgical weight loss intervention. Together they have counseled thousands of bariatric candidates. Through their experience they have discovered life-altering strategies that have helped people adjust to the physical restrictions imposed by surgery.
